2010 General Rules 1. Sign-up at all events. All participants (owners/drivers) are to sign release forms and pay fees upon arrival. Failure to do so will result in being asked to leave the premises (required for insurance purposes.) Two pit passes per car limit. 2. Flags: On play day there will be a Flagman/Starter on duty at the point where cars enter the race track. NO car will enter the track without the starter's permission. 3. Technical Inspection: The owner is required to ask for the inspection. The inspection is done as a courtesy to the owner and in no way constitutes an endorsement by the inspectors or V.A.R.C. that the car is completely free of safety defects. NO CARS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN A V.A.R.C. EVENT WITHOUT THE INSPECTION. 4. Pit Steward: There will be a designated pit steward. This person will have the LAST WORD on when and where the cars will be placed for display and ready for running time. It will be his responsibility to arrange, with the promoter, the proper places and times. This will include placing of tow rigs before, during and after the event. 5. Fire Extingusihers: V.A.R.C. will have three fire extinguishers on hand at all events - when cars are in the pits or on the track. These will be at least 16 pounds capacity, and fully charged in the beginning of each event, including regular events, fair dates and practice days. Safety Requirements: A minimum of two throttle return springs, and a toe strap on the foot pedal are required for carburetor or injector return. An ignition kill switch and fuel shut-off valve are MANDATORY and must be accessible by driver. They must be in working order. Self starter cars must have an approved battery disconnect to disable the cranking and ignition circuits. An ABC type fire extinguisher is required by the car owner, in the car or on it, in the pit area. A safety cable or equivalent must be on the hairpin type of rear radius rods. Brakes must be in working order before being allowed in the running exhibition show or on any track at any time. Spindles: All cars that don't have the international type spindles are required to have a safety skid or shoe under the right side of the front axle. Roll bar: All cars that are in the running exhibitions are required to have a roll bar in back of the cockpit. Roll cages are allowed in place of roll bar. Exception: If you run an original open wheel car that did not have a roll bar as original equipment, you are allowed to run that car with out a roll bar during VARC events. Harness: A five point safety harness is mandatory and must be installed in a safe manner in the car. Helmets: Helmets must be upgraded to Snell 85 grade. It is now mandatory to have one. Driving Suites: Driving suits must be of fire retardant fabrics such as Nomex or Kevlar, as approved by USAC or SCCA. Other driving gear: Other fire retardant wearing apparel such as gloves, underwear, hood, etc. are highly recommended. Driving Rules: 1. Do not run too fast. Moderate your speed. We are running exhibitions, not racing. 2. Do not lead the exhibition by more than a car length or two. Do not run away from the pack. Do not lead the exhibition for more than one lap or two. Keep together, no too close, and make it safe. Run a little slower if needed so that slower cars can keep up. 3. For safe exhibitions, develop safe driving habits. Do not make unncessary sudden moves or stops. Do not charge up through the pack. Move so that others know where you are and what you are doing. Don't intentionally cut anyone off. Do not slow down to abruptly, unless necessary. 4. Always be ready for an emergency stop or move from another car. Slower runners, novice and new drivers will be instructed at the drivers' meeting as to where to start. Stay down on the inside of the track unless told otherwise. Don't run any faster than is comfortable for you. Don't push yourself to keep up with others on the track. Don't overdrive. Keep it straight and safe. 5. When pushing off and entering the track, look out for other cars and push trucks before you signal your push truck. Be sure you have a clear lane. 6. Track conditions to watch for: On dirt - loose dirt, thrown up by the cars on the regular racing program by the outside of the track, guard rail that may have been damaged, or parts of the race cars from the regular program that may be on the track. On asphalt - oil, water, debris, damaged guard rails, rough places or cracks and holes. 7. Observe and obey the flagman at all times. 8. Attend the drivers meeting - mandatory. 9. Keep it fun for everyone. It is your responsibility to comply with these safety rules. Drivers operating vehicles repeatedly in an unsafe manner will be given one warning. If they break a VARC track rule at any time in the next three events that they attend and drive in, they will be banned from the club for one full year from that date. For instance, if they attend only 2 events a year, their first warning could stretch nearly 3 years.* The club, Vintage American Race Cars, cannot be held responsible for your neglect or non-compliance. These rules are for our safety. Remember to be courteous to the promoters and track personnel. We are their guests. Without them, we cannot exist.
